SRG secures Swiss World Cup rights until 2022
SRG has secured the exclusive media rights in Switzerland to the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Fifa World Cup.
The public broadcaster will be entitled to show every game from the two tournaments, which will be played in Russia and Qatar, live on television as well as offering magazine and highlights programmes. It has also taken the online and radio rights.
The deal was agreed with the European Broadcasting Union, who are negotiating the rights to both tournaments on behalf of Fifa in 37 territories across the continent, outside the larger markets of Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the UK. Financial details were not disclosed.
Roger de Weck, the director general of SRG, said: "SRG can offer the Swiss public the next three world championships to its usual high standards, with all the colours and facets. We look forward to being able to report comprehensively in pictures and sound from three of the most talked about sporting events of the next decade, as we will this summer with the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine and the summer Olympic Games in London."
